The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Shivlal Yadav said since the Supreme Court had given him the responsibility of taking care of the day-to-day affairs (other than Indian Premier League), he would try his best to fulfil the expectations.
Speaking to The Hindu at his residence here on Friday, Shivlal said: “I never expected this. I would have been happier if it had come under normal circumstances, but I am ready for any challenge. Having been BCCI vice-president for the last six years, I am aware of the responsibility and am confident of handling any issue.”
Gavaskar factor“I have no problems with anyone and I expect the same with other members too,” he said when asked about Gavaskar taking charge of the IPL season. “I respect anyone who cares for the game. Having played for India under Gavaskar, I have a special bonding with him too, which should help us come up with a good plan,” Shivlal said.
“But, whatever arrangement is made, it will be only till September this year when the BCCI annual general meeting and the elections will be held,” the former India off-spinner said.
“I don’t want to look too far. I have never run after any post and I will never do that. But I am willing to take up the responsibility,” he said.
Shivlal said the BCCI working committee meeting would be held soon. “We have to accept the honourable court’s order,” he said.
“It has been made clear to me that I have to take care of the administrative affairs other than IPL. We will work out ways and means to put in place a system to satisfy everyone,” Shivlal said.
No comments“I don’t want to be dragged into any controversies on the ongoing match-fixing probe. I have nothing to comment as everything is sub-judice. All I can say that I am glad that I have been presented with an opportunity by the Supreme Court to serve the game,” he said.
He also refused to be drawn into a debate on what would be the course of action with regard to N. Srinivasan taking charge as ICC chairman. “I am not competent to talk on the subject right now. We have to wait, study the complete order, debate in the BCCI working committee before taking a final call,” he said.
