BENGALURU: Gujarat CA failed to build on its opening day exploits, adding only 131 runs to its overnight total of 234 for three, on day two of the KSCA Dr. (Capt.) K. Thimmappaiah Memorial cricket tournament final against Andhra CA here on Wednesday.

Thirty of those runs came after Andhra was penalised for slow over-rate. Kathan Patel, who started the day on 82, fell for 88 even as Chirag Gandhi (34) and Dhruv Raval (36) both couldn’t to capitalise on starts. It also did not help that the last three batsmen were all dismissed for ducks. I. Karthik Raman finished with four for 51, which included the scalp of Kathan.

Andhra, in reply, reached 121 for two at stumps. Openers D.B. Prasanth Kumar and K.S. Bharat put on 75. The latter, fresh off a double century against KSCA XI in the semifinals, looked set for a repeat performance, playing some delightful shots including nine boundaries. But medium-pacer Mehul Patel took an excellent return catch to dismiss Bharat for 54.

However, Andhra will be confident of upstaging Gujarat’s total with B. Sumanth, who too scored a double century in the previous match, yet to bat.

The scores: GCA 365 in 111 overs (Samit Gohil 39, Kathan Patel 88, Bhargav Merai 72, Chirag Gandhi 34, Dhruv Raval 36, I. Karthik Raman four for 51) vs ACA 121 for two in 43 overs (K.S. Bharat 54).
