World’s leading woman wicket-taker in One-Day Internationals Jhulan Goswami said the Indian team’s recent title-winning performance in a quadrangular event was good preparation for the upcoming World Cup in England.

Jhulan said the four-nation event, also featuring host South Africa, Ireland and Zimbabwe, at Potchefstroom was well-planned.

“This series was planned so that we could get to play more and more matches before the World Cup. We prepared for this series for six months and performed well.

“It was very tough. The pitch was hard and bouncy. We played good cricket throughout and it feels great to win the trophy,” Jhulan told mediapersons here on arrival from South Africa on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old speedster said the World Cup would pose a bigger challenge.

“There we will see how much of good cricket we have played. World Cup is the ultimate goal. Women cricketers want to do well in ICC tournaments. It's a long and tough tournament. You have to be mentally strong.”

India has been placed with title-holder Australia, New Zealand and England in Group A and will start its campaign against the host on June 24 in the tournament opener at Derby.

Jhulan, who surpassed Australian pacer Cathryn Fitzpatrick’s record of 180 ODI wickets during the four-nation event and has claimed 185 wickets so far, downplayed her achievement.

“I never played for records but for the love of the sport. You achieve milestones when you keep playing,” she said.
