Former Australia captain Ian Craig dies

Ian Craig, who was Australia’s youngest Test cricket player at 17 and its youngest captain at 22, has died aged 79, Cricket Australia said.

A right-hand batsman, Craig became the youngest player to play a Test for Australia when he made his debut against South Africa in 1953 aged 17 years, 239 days. He was made captain for the 1957-58 tour to South Africa aged 22 years, 194 days and after playing only six Tests.

Craig played 11 Tests in total before retiring at 26, having made 358 runs at an average of 19.88 with a highest score of 53.
