A good catch from Michael Hussey, a good run out from S. Badrinath and a match-innings innings from Ravindra Jadeja were the three outstanding performances that turned the match in Chennai Super Kings’ favour, felt the team coach Stephen Fleming.
“Jadeja did well with the ball (4-0-20-3) and his 36 not out from 14 balls gave us the momentum.
“He is really developing, both in the changing room and obviously as a player. He is gaining a lot of confidence and that is good for the side,” Fleming said after CSK pulled off a four-wicket win over the host at Eden Gardens on Saturday.
“There was a good catch from Hussey and an excellent run-out by Badri, which gave us the headway,” Fleming added.
“It was one of those tough games where you have to grind it out with a match-winning innings. We created that opportunity and did well enough to get over the line,” Fleming was happy in the way CSK got the match in its favour.
About promoting Ravichandran Ashwin up the batting order, Felming said his unorthodox way of batting prompted them to try him as an opener.
“He (Ashwin) has got a pretty good record and he is not orthodox.
“We thought if we could break up the spinning pattern and get a quick 20 or 30, chasing 120 would be a lot easier with our main batters to come,” Felming said.
Poor batting form
The KKR coach Tervor Bayliss worried about his team’s poor batting form.
“It was not a great performance from the batting unit. It has been the same problem in almost every game. Our bowling and fielding have been similar to last year. But certainly our batting is letting us down,” Bayliss said.
“We would try and mirror image the character we showed in the bowling and fielding departments.
“We got to try and transfer that to our batting. We obviously got confidence with our fielding and bowling,” Bayliss said after the match.
