The England and New Zealand men’s teams may have been knocked out of the ICC World Twenty20 but the two nations’ respective flags have still flown high over the last week thanks to their women’s squads.

The stage is now set for the women’s semifinal featuring England and New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium here on Thursday evening.

The teams do have an intertwined history, having competed against each other in the 2009 edition’s final at Lord’s. Back then, England defeated New Zealand by six wickets.
