England beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets on the fourth day of the second test at the Riverside Ground in Durham on Monday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Alastair Cook became the first Englishman to reach 10,000 test runs before leading his team to an emphatic nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second test at Durham on Monday that wrapped up the series. Cook is also the 12th batsman in test history to reach the landmark.
Cook scored 47 not out as England eased to their target of 79 after Dinesh Chandimal made a fine century to lift Sri Lanka to 475 in their second innings on the fourth day.
Cook joins Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, Allan Border, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Jacques Kallis on the list.
The 31-year-old reached the milestone as England started the task of scoring 79 runs in the second innings to win the test and take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series.
