Skipper Mithali Raj scored an unbeaten century (104, 109b, 8x4, 2x6) as India thrashed Sri Lanka by 95 runs in the third and final ODI to blank the visitors 3-0 at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Thursday.
Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav, with four wickets, played a major role as India choked Sri Lanka in its reply.
The ODI series, which will be followed by three Twenty20 matches from January 25, was a highly successful one for Mithali.
She played crucial knocks in the first two matches while remaining unbeaten, and made her fifth century in her 148th ODI in this game.
Poor startChasing 230 for victory, Sri Lanka stumbled at the start. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who opened the attack with medium-pacer Shubhlaxmi Sharma, lured out Yasoda Mendis and wicketkeeper Anaghna Deshpande did the rest.
Anagha had three more victims in the game.
Rajeshwari and off-spinner Sneh Rana claimed two wickets each while Jhulan Goswami, who dismissed Chamri Polgampala, bowled a restrictive line as Sri Lanka slumped to 101 for eight.
Oshadi Ranasinghe (29 not out), who played some fine shots, delayed the inevitable.
In the morning, Mithali helped India build up a good total by adding 81 for the unbeaten sixth-wicket with Jhulan, 42 for the fifth with Amita Sharma (16) and 57 for the third wicket with Harmanpreet Kaur (24).
In between, Sri Lankan off-spinner Oshadi claimed two quick wickets — Harmanpreeet and Vanitha — at the same total of 106.
Mithali reached her century with a brace off Udeshika Prabodini off the penultimate ball of the innings before sending the last ball to the boundary.
Mithali was happy that the team resumed its campaign with a thumping series win after a gap of one year in international engagements.
The Andhra Cricket Association president, D.V. Subba Rao, presented the trophy to the Indian team.
The scores:
India 229 for five in 50 overs (Mithali Raj 104 n.o., Jhulan Goswami 26 n.o.) bt Sri Lanka 134 in 44 overs (Oshadhi Ranasinghe 29, Poonam Yadav four for 13).
