These are early days in the Champions League and the competition is yet to warm up. But the prevailing hot weather is likely to further discourage cricket lovers from making it to the late afternoon-start clash between Perth Scorchers and Dolphins.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Mitchell Marsh declared that Scorchers had put together their best combination in the competition, despite the absence of his brother Shaun and Simon Katich.
Though pace spearhead Nathan Coulter-Nile will miss the match owing to a hamstring injury, Marsh pointed to the positives.
“We have a really well-rounded bowling attack with plenty of options. In the Big Bash, our strength was taking early wickets. We have a good bowling attack that swings the ball.”
Scorchers’ batting looks less than formidable, and much will depend on opener Craig Simmons, Voges and Marsh.
Dolphins, going by the confidence expressed by coach Lance Klusener, “will be very tough to beat”. The former Test all-rounder said: “We have come here to win this tournament. So we are not too worried about the perception out there.”
