Dhoni to skip Irani Cup

January 28, 2013 03:45 am | Updated 03:45 am IST - DHARAMSHALA:

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said a firm ‘no’ to playing the upcoming Irani Cup match scheduled from February 6 to10.

Asked whether he would be available to lead Rest of India against probable rival Mumbai, Dhoni said here, “No, as of now. We have some time before the Test series (against Australia) and I would like to make the most of it.”

The four-Test series against Australia will be played in Chennai (Feb. 22-26), Hyderabad (March 2-6), Mohali (March 14-18) and New Delhi (March 22-26).

In fact, Dhoni has not played a first-class domestic competition since scoring 109 in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group semifinals against Haryana at Chandigarh in March 2005.
