Former India pacer Chetan Sharma on Wednesday held captain Mahender Singh Dhoni’s selection policy responsible for the team’s early ouster from the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.
“I think the entire team should not be blamed for the exit. Only Dhoni is to be blamed. He should accept his responsibility and stop blaming rain (for India’s ouster),” Sharma said about Dhoni’s excuse following the heavy defeat against Australia in their first Super Eights game.
Sharma was aghast with Dhoni’s decision to leave experienced off-spinner Harbhajan Singh out of the crucial Super Eights match against South Africa on Tuesday.
“Seeing Harbhajan not playing such an important match was shocking and depressing as well. A bowler who has over 400 Test wickets shouldn’t have been left out of the team,” he said.
“If his horses for courses policy are to be implemented then Harbhajan should have made it into the team,” Sharma said.

I think Sehwag,Ghambir,Zaheer,Harbajan and Rohit should be dropped...v ll give chance for manoj diwari....better they can involve in politics
I think Sehwag. Ghambir, Zaheer,Harbajanand Rohit are to be dropped as
far as 20Twenty is concerned. We must form the team with younger,
fitter, non-egoistic players who will definitely deliver results.
Before all that Coach Fletcher should be shown doors. The selectors
are apprehensive about criticism of the Media and to pamper them they
select unfit-health-wise, attitude-wise- players who is more interested to appear & earn through Advertisements. That must be the
reason for Tendulkar not quitting the arena as he is afraid that the Advertisers will go for the current favourites. JAYARAMAN.
It is the failure of the team and not just MSD alone.
We lost only to Australia. We would have won that as well if not for
the rain. I fully endorse with MSD; "the rain" being the spoilsport.
Gripping a wet ball for spin!!!!!!!!
It is a pity that memories are short lived. Please don't forget what
MSD has done to Indian cricket. He has taken our cricket to the
highest level in all forms; won the first T 20 World Cup, Test cricket
to Rank no.1 and won the last World cup in one day internationals. Had
he not promoted himself in the batting order and played a gem of an
innings Sri Lanka would have taken the cup. Hats off to MSD.
Mr. Sharma, with all due respects to you, have you forgotten what you
delivered as the last ball to Javed Miandad in Sharjah?
It is not the time, now, to criticise the Indian team. As Ravi has
remarked "we should support them now because we have tough series'
ahead with Australians and England.
MSD all the best to you and your team.

I think was thinking that our selectors as fools for selecting experienced Harbajan into team for this major tourney. He always thinks luck is in his favor and that will do everything. That is why he always makes changes in the team on his wish. But nobody can survive every time with luck only. Even luck is factor that made him a successful captain for India, but he no longer should depend on the same. That will not be good for Indian cricket.
Atlast somebody had the guts to expose Dhoni. Dhoni has taken it as an IPL and managed it as a CSK team that is why today we are in such a position. When we need runs to win why didnt he come up the order to handle the pathetic situation. His record though is very poor in T20 batting and strike rate is far below some of the bowlers. Luck has favoured him enough and i think he doesnt have it in him anymore to go and take the team forward beyond his luck.
Time to move on Dhoni you have made enough.
I think MSD should not be blamed alone, its a team game and everyone is responsible, we lost only one match against Australia, otherwise we performed better. And regarding the question of Harbhajan selection, i would say, what he would have done, when we have 7 batsmen and still we are unable to score more than 175. Instead we should have gone with six batsmen and 5 bowlers, because we have irfan, ashwin who can bat as well.
I think we should support them now, because we have tough series coming on against england and australia.
With all due respect to Mr. Chetan Sharma, it is unfair to criticize Dhoni for
playing a team consisting of seven batsmen, which precluded inclusion of
Harbhajan. As it happened, Dhoni was right since all the bastmen were out to
spirited bowling by South Africans and only Raina and Dhoni were the last
batsmen standing and but for Dhoni, India would not have reached 152. This was
crucial since , since India won by only one run. If India had omitted one batsmen,
India's total might not have been 152 but something less. Harbhajan is on the
come-back trail and while he did well against England, he didn't do so well
against Australia. So the captain didn't want to expose Harbhajan. Well, let's wait
and see how Harbhajan fares in future. I request not to criticize the performance
of the team or captain unfairly, since South Africans are no pushovers.
What's more baffling is, instead of owing up the responsibility for
wrong Strategies (team selection) during the loss against Australia,
Dhoni is simply blaming the rain. This attitude has to be changed. If
the captain makes a wrong move, he has to admit it honestly.
Of late Skipper Dhoni is coming up with some hillarious reasons for the recent defeats. after one of the matches during t20, he was saying that spinners couldnt grip the ball. dont know if it is his innocence or is it his impression that people are naive to get carried away by his reasoning. he needs to introspect on the defeats and suggest corrective actions for teams success.
Winning or Loosing is part of game. It is not the end for Indian team. Please stop blaming Dhoni. He is such a great captain and he is the one who brought many young players to the team. He is the one who brought T20 world cup in 2007 and ODI world cup in 2011 and so on... once again please stop blaming about him. Just see what is going to be done in future.
Team India's captain did not formulate proper strategy in selecting
the playing XI for each match. T20 matches basically need a very good
fielding side. Every side, may be excepting Pakistan, has bowlers who
can field well. See Team India's bowlers. Most of them are liabilities
on the field.
For the present WC even the selection committee has not made their
work properly. How can they pick Piyush Chawla and Dinda when they can
not deliver in T20 matches. Let us hope the new selection committee
headed by Sandeep Patil will make no nonsense selection for future
matches.
In the Australian match, the run rate damage was devastating, it was known at the end of that match itself and this is not being stated in hindsight, Dhoni as captain of the Indian National Team should have known better on how it could come to bite us back and on how to mitigate that known risk.
Risk :Poor NRR creating a very tough qualify scenario in the future
Risk Mitigation : Try to Decrease the NRR difference, especially if an Opportunity presents itself where the risk of loss in match is low.
Execution : NONE,Opportunity presented itself in the Pakistan match and the mitigation plan(if there) was not executed.
Even in the last match SA match, should have planned for 180 first but instead it seemed like team was aiming for 200, instead ended up with 150. The batting didn't look impressive. Seemed like the wickets went not because of great balls but because of poor decisions/focus by batsmen.
It will be unprofessional & irresponsible if the same mistakes are made again in the future
Dear Chetan Sharma,
Will you please stop blaming captain for every thing. Ashwin has good
form than Bajji. So selection is good..
Do you think Bajji can change the game by his own. :-) :-)
Here we go again. Last time it was Kapil Dev. This time it is Dhoni. Do the critics feel that the man should win all his matches. Dhoni had a view of what things were like and he gave it his all. India narrowly missed the boat to the semi-s due to run rate and the strange collapse of Aussies against Pakistan but still managing to score almost exactly what was need for them to progress to the semis. Does anyone smell a rat here? I think none of this criticism would have come if the Aussies had beaten Pakistan and India had managed to progress to the semis. India did creditably well winning two of the three matches in the super eights. Dhoni deserves all the credit for hsi management of the team.
Mr Sharma last time when India played with four spinners you saw what
happened to the Indian team and in that match Harbhajan Singh went for
20 runs in 2 overs after which Dhoni have to remove him from the
attack. Regarding match against SA he kept the same team as that same
team had won against the Pakistan with so much margin. Now here comes
the trick question whom should we remove if Harbhajan have to be
included. Is it Sehwag? I don't think so because if he is out every
media and cricket commentator will cry horse. should it be
gambhir, kohli, sharma, raina or dhoni himself because in bowling in the
last match Balaji bowled beautifully, ashwin and zaheer cant be
replaced. Then the only person left is Pathan which is contributing
lot more then Harbhajan is every department. So please stop blaming
Dhoni as he is the same captain under whom leadership India won two
world cup
MSD have already proved he is the best captain for india. Chetan Sharma can mind his business.
