Sri Lanka dismisses New Zealand for 221

Fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep took 4—63 as Sri Lanka dismissed New Zealand for 221 on the opening day of the second Test on Saturday.

Sri Lanka claimed New Zealand’s last eight wickets for 81 runs after winning the toss and sending the hosts to bat first.

But the tourists slumped at the start of their innings, losing five wickets for 78 runs before stumps.

Veteran Kumar Sangakkara scored the five runs he needed to become the fifth player in cricket history to surpass 12,000 test runs. He was 33 not out at stumps.

New Zealand won the first Test at Christchurch by eight wickets.
