They might be embroiled in the spot-fixing scandal, but the IPL 6 runners-up Chennai Super Kings won the Fair Play award on Sunday even though the points table was missing from the tournament website.
Rajasthan Royals were at the pole position of the Fair Play table followed by Chennai Super Kings at the midway stage.
But after both the teams were mired in the scandal, the table went missing from the website raising speculation that the award had been discarded.
So, it came as a big surprise when Super Kings were awarded the trophy that is adjudged by the umpires on the basis of their on-field conduct.
Later, interacting with the media, team coach Stephen Fleming said CSK were deserving winners of the Fair Play Award despite the hard last few days.
“We do pride ourselves for being at the top for fair play. You can’t take that away from us,” Fleming said at the post-match presser.
“We are proud of the way we play our game on the field. We are always right near the top every year, it’s one of the key components of the side. We want to play the game hard. But we want to be very fair.”
However, the list that has the points details of all the nine teams has still not appeared on the website even as it carried the respective lists of other 2013 Leaders — Orange Cap (run-getter), Purple Cap (wicket-taker), Most Valuable Player and Maximum Sixes.
