The cricket fraternity from across the globe on Thursday reacted with shock and sadness at the passing away of Australian batsman Phil Hughes, who succumbed to injuries in Sydney after being hit by a bouncer in a Sheffield Shield match.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) led the Indian cricket fraternity in condoling the death of Hughes, who was described as true gentleman on the field.
“It is a really sad and depressing day for cricket. It is really hard, probably one of the worst days. It is hard to come to terms with something like this happening to a cricketer on a cricket field and at this time all our thoughts are with his family and friends and may his soul rest in peace. It is going to take a long time to get over this for everyone all over the cricketing world.”

“I am devastated. I was hoping desperately, like so many across the world, that he would come out of it, when I read the reports that he had undergone surgery, was in intensive care in a very critical condition.
