Chemplast and CAG to fight it out for the Rs. 1 crore prize money

Defending champion Chemplast and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) will vie for the coveted title and the winner’s prize money of Rs. 1 crore in the final of BCCI Corporate tournament for the Rajsingh Dungarpur Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday.

The runner-up will receive Rs. 50 lakh. Both teams have reached the final unbeaten.

While Chemplast beat Andhra Bank, Indian Oil, Indian Income Tax and BPCL, the Imtiaz Ahmed-led CAG beat MRF, State Bank of Travancore, ONGC and India Cements.

A seasoned campaigner for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy tournament, medium-pacer Imtiaz has taken 11 wickets. Hs new ball partner Ritu Raj Singh has taken 12.

Hopeful

Batsmen Ankur Julka, Bhavesh Shetty, Ankit Lamba and Avi Barod have delivered with the bat. “We reached the semifinals twice in the last four years. We lost to Chemplast in the semifinals at Indore last year. Hopefully we will be able to turn the tables,” said Imtiaz.

Chemplast has been served well by batsmen Napolean Einstein, Mayank Agarwal, R. Sathish, Robin Bist and bowlers — Piyush Chawla, Prasanth Parameswaran and R. Suthesh. When the chips were down in the semifinal against BPCL at Motera, Hemant Kumar and V. Ashwin rose to the occasion putting on a match-winning 86 off 78 balls for the seventh wicket.
