Former Test player Chandu Borde, on Saturday, unveiled a statue of Pankaj Lall Roy at the Kumartuli Park here. Roy, who lived just opposite to the park, was honoured by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Many eminent sporting personalities, including Chuni Goswami, were present during the function. Mr. Goswami asked the KMC to rename the park as Pankaj Roy Park. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Borde said that Roy’s inputs during the selection of the 1983 World Cup winning team were very valuable as one of the selectors.
He said Roy deserved the statue which he hoped would inspire future generation of cricket players who hone their skills at the park.
