Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) expressed optimism about Ranchi becoming the latest ODI centre this year after a high-level BCCI team today inspected the cricket stadium here.

A three-member team comprising manager (cricket operations) Suru Nayak, ground and pitches committee chairman Venkat Sundaram and secretary Sanjay Jagdale inspected the JSCA International Stadium Complex, about ten kilometres from Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s residence.

“We are hopeful to host (one of the ODI matches between India and West Indies in December) as the stadium is almost completed,” JSCA secretary Amitabh Choudhary told PTI here.

“There is no other example of a stadium being finished in the shortest possible time - two years and three months only,” he added.

Lauded by former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik during his visit along with his wife Sania Mirza earlier this year, the stadium reportedly has a capacity of 35,000.

A Ranji Trophy match was also played on the newly laid turf earlier this year.
