Jayalakshmi Narayanaswamy, mother of BCCI President N. Srinivasan and World Squash Federation President N. Ramachandran, passed away here in the early hours of Thursday. She was 92 and was ailing for a brief period.

Wife of the late T.S. Narayanaswamy, Founder-Director, India Cements, Jayalakshmi also leaves behind two daughters, Sudha Rajan and Uma Shivkumar, apart from grandchildren.

Social worker

As an industrialist’s wife, Jayalakshmi had always kept herself busy with social work and charitable activities.

Her role as chairperson of the Guild of Service is well documented.

Hand of help

Inmates in the Guild remember her as a ‘hand of help for the abandoned’.

It was in her time that the children’s home (part of the Guild) was upgraded into a full-fledged school for the inmates and children from financially backward classes.
