Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to field first against Australia on Saturday in their first match of a three-game one-day international series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Both sides are meeting in their first international encounter after disappointing World Cup campaigns.

Australia, three-time World Cup champions, was knocked out in the World Cup quarterfinals two weeks ago for its worst tournament result in 19 years.

Bangladesh failed to get out of the group stage after suffering humiliating defeats against the West Indies and South Africa.

Ricky Ponting resigned as test and ODI skipper after nine years of reign following the World Cup and agreed to continue to play under new captain Michael Clarke.

Bangladesh drafted in fast bowler Mashrafe bin Mortaza, who missed the World Cup due to a knee injury.

Teams:

Australia: Shane Watson, Brad Haddin, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Cameron White, Mike Hussey, Steve Smith, Mitchell Johnson, John Hastings, Brett Lee, Xavier Doherty.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Shahriar Nafees, Roqibul Hassan, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Sohrawardy Shuvo, Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam.
