Bangladesh ended Afghanistan’s unlikely run with a five-wicket victory in the Twenty20 final match to clinch its first-ever Asian Games gold medal.

Middle-order batsman Mohammad Shabbir (33 not out) hit successive straight sixes off Karim Khan Sadeq’s 19th over as Bangladesh raced to 119 with only a few balls to spare.

Afghanistan made 118 for eight off 20 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 38 off 36 balls by Mohammad Asghar.

Needing 19 runs off the last two overs, offspinner Sadeq conceded 17 runs in the penultimate over.

Afghanistan defeated favourites Pakistan in the semifinals while Bangladesh stunned strong Sri Lanka. Earlier, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the bronze playoff.
