Ashwin’s century powers Rovers

Ashwin Venkataraman’s first century (152 n.o., 256b, 374m, 11x4, 2x6) for Jolly Rovers helped his team declare on 423 for eight against Globe Trotters on day two of the fourth round in the TNCA first division league.

The Trotters, in reply, went to stumps on Thursday on 58 for one.

Opener S. Karthik (113 batting, 229b, 322 m, 7x4) was the cornerstone of Alwarpet’s innings as it ended the day on 225 for seven in pursuit of UFCC’s (T. Nagar) first-innings total of 236.

Along with Tinu Yohannan (41 batting, 4x4, 1x6), he shared an unbeaten eighth wicket partnership of 78 runs to bring Alwarpet within striking distance of first-innings-lead territory.

P. Francis Rokins’ rollicking innings (115 n.o., 115b, 170m, 8x6, 7x4) gave AG’s Office a first-innings lead of 211 runs over TSC. He reached his century with a slog sweep for six and followed it up with two more sixes off successive deliveries, after which the innings was declared closed.

Opening batsman R. Ananth’s patient effort (66, 290b, 387m, 7x4) ensured that India Pistons edged past Young Stars’ first-innings score.

He collected 77 runs in 46.2 overs in the company of R. Vishnu (50, 5x4), who joined him when the score was 25 for two.

At Murugappa: Grand Slam 340 in 129.1 overs (K. Varun Kumar 43, B. Indrajith 70, S. Suresh Kumar 79, V. Maaruthi Raghav 78, G.V.S. Prasad four for 64) vs IOB 154 for three in 51 overs (Abhishek M. Hegde 40, S. Vasanth Saravanan 42 batting).

At IC-Guru Nanak: Vijay 275 in 104.2 overs (Vijay Shankar 52, R. Rohith 63, S. Thiyagarajan four for 93, R. Karthikeyan four for 95) vs TI Cycles 166 for five in 73 overs (M. Santhosh Gopi 65).

At MAC: UFCC (T. Nagar) 236 in 99.4 overs (V. Ganga Sridhar Raju 53, M.K. Sivakumar 54) vs Alwarpet 225 for seven in 78 overs (S. Karthik 113 batting, Tinu Yohannan 41 batting).

At RKM-Viveka: TSC 132 & one for no loss in four overs vs AG’s Office 343 for seven decl. in 96 overs (N.S. Chaturved 55, M. Vijay Bharathram 49, P. Francis Rokins 115 n.o.).
