The revival of bilateral cricketing relations between India and Pakistan has given hopes of extending the ties in a bigger way, said Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf here on Thursday.
“We are working with the Indian board to start an Ashes-like series, which will be played every season or alternate seasons,” Ashraf told a news conference at the Eden Gardens.
“The series can be named either after (Mohammad Ali) Jinnah or (Mahatma) Gandhi,” Ashraf said. The PCB chairman said the chances of Pakistan resuming cricketing series with other countries had also improved.
“The terrorist threat has decreased and our cities and grounds are now safe. We have security in place and no team need be afraid of coming to Pakistan,” he said.

On the possibility of Pakistani players participating in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League, Ashraf said, “if the BCCI asks us, we will be cooperative and supportive as we have been in the past.”
