The second Twenty20 international between England and South Africa was abandoned on Monday after one short session because of rain.

England was 29-2 after 4.1 overs of their reply to South Africa’s 77-5 in a match reduced to nine overs per side when steady rain began to fall.

South Africa will take a 1-0 series lead into the third match at Edgbaston.

The match at Old Trafford had been delayed by more than two hours by earlier rain. When it started, South Africa batsman Hashim Amla again dominated against the English bowlers, hitting seven fours in an unbeaten 47 from 30 balls.
