Jaydev Shah’s rollicking knock (115, 103b, 10x4, 7x6) powered Saurashtra to 397 for nine against Kerala on day one of their quarterfinal encounter in the Buchi Babu all-India tournament on Monday.

The in-form Saurashtra skipper, along with Rahul Dave (80), added 151 for the fourth wicket to revive his team after it was stuttering at 77 for three.

Kerala’s fielding was good for most part but it would regret reprieving Dave when he was on 13 as off-spinner S. Anish spilled a fairly easy return chance.

Arpit Vasavada (77) continued the good work to guide Saurashtra to a strong position. For Kerala, captain Sachin Baby picked up three wickets with his off-breaks.

Bacchav scalps five

Aditya Waghmode (90), Yusuf Pathan (81) and Pinal Shah (80) helped Baroda score 339 against Maharashtra, which opted to bowl. Left-arm spinner Satyajit Bacchav (five for 82) claimed his second five-wicket haul of the competition.

In another match, TNCA President’s XI finished at 233 after electing to bat against Karnataka. An 80-run partnership between K. Shri Vasudevadas (98) and M. Vijay (51) helped the team’s cause. Seamer Abhimanyu Mithun and left-arm spinner K.P. Appanna bagged three wickets each.

Mumbai, inserted by Odisha, was bowled out for 257. Kaustubh Pawar (63) and Siddhesh Lad (51) added 80 for the second wicket. The bowling honours were shared by left-arm spinner Paresh Patel (four for 95) and captain and medium-pacer Biplab Samantray (three for 43).
