Kevin Pietersen has been left out of England’s 30-man provisional squad for the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.

Pietersen retired from limited-overs cricket in May but hinted last Saturday that he was negotiating with the England and Wales Cricket Board about a U-turn. But the talks appear to have been unsuccessful, and Pietersen will remain in retirement when England defends the trophy in four months.

England’s one—day international captain Alistair Cook is included alongside Ian Bell, James Anderson and Eoin Morgan.
