Sachin Tendulkar along with his wife Anjali on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence here.
Ms. Sonia wanted to meet the batting great and personally congratulate him on achieving the historic feat of scoring 100 international centuries recently.
Senior BCCI functionary and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla was also present at Ms. Gandhi’s residence.
According to sources, Tendulkar and his wife spent close to half an hour with Ms. Sonia.
The Congress President is learnt to have talked in general about cricket and wished the player luck for his future.
Tendulkar, who turned 39 on Tuesday, had to wait for more than one year to move from 99 hundreds to the landmark 100th century before finally achieving it in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on March 16.

Sachin also known for his cool and intelegense. I hope he will not opt political career by accepting MP seat where he is to act against his concious with dirty politics. To serve public if wishes let him join hands with Anna Hazare
sachin this is not good for You.........Your In Our Heart ..if your enter into politic you will going to flop in our heart.......If you want serve to people go other way....bt don't do it...please......if You do like this then you will also become like chiranjivi(tollywood megastar).........please sachin do not go to hell........
The comments from vc sekar and KS Raghunathan above are spot-on. While it is not entirely established that endowed skills necessarily translate to being a good coach, India does need the likes of Lillee and Chappel. With his established resources, only Sachin's will and desire stand in its way. Politics requires a skills-set very different from what he has displayed so far, nor is there anything to suggest he can contribute to the nation in any other field. Hope he does not succumb to his ego, but serve in a field in which he is a master.
I think this is one way indirectly and tacitly the powers that be in India is telling Sachin that it is time to retire from cricket and start a new career like politics or something.
only in this country achievers have to get the blessings of non achievers.
This shows, how pleased Congress Pesident might have been on Sachin Tendulkar
reaching the enviable milestone of hundred 100s. However,It is a common strategy
for political leaders to be seen amongst Godmen, Living-Gods, Shankaracharyas,
Swamijis and the like, with large number of followers, hoping that such"acts"would
attract these followers to their political camp, especially before elections. Mrs Indira
Gandhi used to do such tricks. On a one to one basis, Sachin Tendulkar has more
"fans/followlers" than any political or non-political leader in the country today. One
should not be surprised if this invitation to meet Sachin is only an attempt to "lure"
him to the Congress Party to boost its sagging image.
The news is now out that PM Office has written to Home Minstry for nomination of Tendulkar for Rajya Sabha. Sachin should politely decline the offer and concentrate only on Cricket and philonthrophic activities. He may not do good to society by getting nominated to Rajya Sabha. One should view this in the perspective of how Dennis Lillee ( from Australia ) started a Foundation in Chennai, India and groomed so many fast bowlers. If a Sachin Tendulkar would not do such a service given his cricketing abilities and financial strength and rest in Rajya Sabha, we Indians should expect Greg Chappel to start another Foundation ( he is already doing service in India )to groom batsmen !
