A well-earned call-up: Dravid

August 25, 2015 12:08 am | Updated March 29, 2016 05:14 pm IST - KRISHNAGIRI (WAYANAD):

Nothing brings more joy to a coach’s face than the success of a ward. Proof for that was there on Rahul Dravid’s face on Monday, the eve of the second unofficial Test between India ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’.

Dravid said he, along with the entire India ‘A’ team, was delighted for Karun Nair, who was picked for the Indian team for the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, a couple of days after his match-saving hundred in the first unofficial Test here.

“It is a great honour and moment for anyone to get selected for India,” Dravid said. “It's a great feeling when a young kid gets selected.”

He added it was a proud moment not just for Karun. “It’s a great moment for his family too,” he said. “It is a dream come true for anyone. It might not be a dream just for you, but also for your family, friends, coaches and so many people who have invested in your cricket.”

He said Karun showed excellent temperament. “It was not an easy innings as he was under pressure,” said the batting legend. “His partnerships with Abhinav Mukund and Vijay Shankar were good and came under pressure. The track was turning and South Africa ‘A’ had a couple of good spinners.”

Dravid praised Karun for the positive intent he showed. “He had a very good range of shots against the spinners and overall showed good temperament,” he said. “It is a well-earned call- up.”
