Paul Collingwood made an accomplished 94 before England declared at 288-8 on Thursday’s first day of their tour match against South Australia.

Ian Bell made 61 after England won the toss and batted first in the three day match at Adelaide Oval.

England’s top order batsmen got some valuable match practice in the second of the three warmup games before the first test against Australia starting Nov. 25.

Kevin Pietersen made 33, with all but seven runs coming from boundaries, while the out-of-form Alistair Cook made a patient 32. Captain Andrew Strauss was the first batsman out for 4.

South Australia was 26 without loss at stumps.
