BCCI AGM: Sahai demands venue change

February 26, 2015 02:51 am | Updated April 02, 2016 06:44 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Former Cabinet Minister Subodh Kant Sahai has demanded a change in venue for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be held in Chennai on March 2.

Sahai, representing the Cricket Association of Jharkhand, appealed to all the affiliated units of the Board to not “allow” the sidelined BCCI president N. Srinivasan the “advantage of home ground.”

He demanded the change citing Mumbai’s Cricket Centre as the “official headquarters of the Board.” Sahai claimed several members of the Board had confessed their apprehensions regarding a fair election if the venue was not changed.

Sahai called upon the Supreme Court to nullify all the decisions taken at the working committee meeting held in Chennai on February 8. “The decisions taken at that meeting are illegal because he had been barred from attending the meeting.” Sahai said a supplementary petition had been filed in the Supreme Court in this regard.

He also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office “for stepping in and cleaning the mess in the BCCI”.

Sahai expected senior members like Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar to act in the interest of cricket and prevent any Srinivasan-backed candidate from being successful.
