Vidyasagar emerges fastest

Dutee wins women’s 100m; Nayana takes long jump gold

S. Vidyasagar of Karnataka won the 100 metres, even as the much-anticipated duel between Tamil Nadu’s V.K. Elakkiya Dasan and Amiya Kumar Mallick of Odisha did not materialise, in the Run Adam Indian Grand Prix at the National Institute of Sports here on Tuesday.

Three races were held separately and the podium finishers were decided by timings.

Elakkiya Dasan, who had won two bronze medals in the Asian circuit recently, did not compete.

On a day when World junior champion Neeraj Chopra took the javelin gold with a throw of 82.88m, Amoj Jacob of Delhi won his 400m race but was third-best overall as K.S. Jeevan bagged the gold in a time of 46.64s.

In triple jump, A.V. Rakesh Babu of Kerala won with a leap of 16.59m, while Arpinder Singh (16.45) and Renjith Maheswary (16.09) had to settle for the second and third spots.

In women’s long jump, Nayana James topped the charts with her first jump of 6.47m. She was pushed all the way by Neena Pinto who eventually finished second with an effort of 6.41.

Dutee Chand won the women’s 100 metres with 11.57, the remaining two medals going to Hima Das and Prajna Prakash who competed in the other two races.

Long jump: 1. Wayne Peppin 7.62; 2. Ankit Sharma 7.46; 3. Kuldeep Saini 7.26.

Triple jump: 1. A.V. Rakesh Babu 16.59; 2. Arpinder Singh 16.45; 3. Renjith Maheswary 16.09.

Shot put: 1. Tajinder Pal Singh Toor 19.95; 2. Naveen Chhikara 19.08; 3. Paramjeet Singh 16.74.
