Six police athletes test positive

Six athletes who participated in the all-India Police athletics championships held here from March 12 to 15 have tested positive for banned substances.

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) which was in charge of doping control during the meet, announced on Tuesday that out of 55 samples, six had turned up ‘positive', a percentage that was higher than the national average of four per cent.

The substances detected were steroids stanozolol, methandienone and nandrolone and diuretic furosemide.

The athletes belonged to Punjab, BSF, ITBP, CRPF and Orissa, the NADA stated in a release.

The NADA is awaiting test reports on 47 urine samples and 12 blood samples collected during the all-India Police Games (wrestling cluster) here from March 26 to 30.
