S. Saraswathi of Southern Railway bagged a brace of gold medals in the women's section of the 85th senior State athletics championship, organised by Tiruchi District Athletics Association, at Anna Stadium here on Saturday.

She capped off her javelin throw victory in the morning with a win in the shot put later in the day.

Balamurugan of Southern Railway clocked 14.1s in the men's 110m hurdles, equalling the meet record set by J. Surendhar in 2011.

Upset win for Bhuvaneshwari

Tiruchi's R. Bhuvaneshwari, the Commonwealth championship under-20 gold medal winner, pulled off a surprise win over second seed C.H. Savetha of Chennai in the second round of the Tamil Nadu State junior chess championship at the Sanmarga Sangam in Coimbatore on Saturday.

In another exciting clash, Aarudhra Ganesh of Coimbatore drew with Sivakasi's R. Visalatchi.
