Sahana Kumari disappoints

August 10, 2012 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - LONDON:

High jumper Sahana Kumari put up a dismal show in the qualification round on Thursday, managing to clear just 1.80 metres.

Having made the qualification mark of 1.92m, a National record, in the Hyderabad inter-State meet, Sahana was expected to perform creditably on her Olympic debut. But that did not happen.

Passing the opening height of 1.75m, Sahana sailed over 1.80 next without trouble on her first attempt, but then failed thrice at 1.85m. The automatic qualification for the Olympic final was set at 1.96m which only one athlete (Svetlana Radzivil of Uzbekistan) managed.

Sahana finished joint 29th with four others among 35 jumpers in two groups.
