Kenyan Laban Moiben won the men's full marathon in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012, pipping Ethiopian Raji Assefa with a burst to the tape. Moiben took home $ 36,000 for his efforts.

Ethiopian Netsanet Abeyo left her rivals far behind while cruising to victory in the women's event. She was more than four minutes ahead of second-place finisher and favourite Fatima Sado.

Assefa matched strides with Moiben and positioned himself well for a final surge. The latter, however, beat him back with a powerful burst, though not quick enough to better the course record of 2:09:54.

Assefa clocked the same time as the winner (2:10:48) while Kenyan John Kyui (2:10:54) was third.

Five Indians finished in the top 20. Army Sports Institute's Ram Singh Yadav headed the list at 12th, followed by Elam Singh (15th), Rajesh T.A. (18th), Lynkhoi Binning (19th) and Karan Singh (20th).

Lalita Babbar topped the Indian section in the women's full marathon (2:53:35) while Soji Mathew (1:05:29) and Priyanka Patel (1:21:55) won the half-marathon titles.
