Mohammed Shaween takes 1,500m gold

Mohammed Othman Shaween of Saudi Arabia has come from behind on the final lap to win the men’s 1,500 metres at the Asian Games in 3 minutes, 36.49 seconds.

Finishing second was Sajad Moradi of Iran at 3-37.09. The bronze went to Belal Mansoor Belal Ali of Bahrain at 3-38.39.

Bahrain’s Maryam Yusuf Jamal and Mimi Belete Gebregiorges moved to the front of the pack on the final lap in the women’s 1,500 and Jamal sprinted ahead to win in 4 minutes, 8.22 seconds. Vietnam’s Thanh Hang Truongn overcame Gebregiorges in the final 50 metres to claim the silver, at 4-09.58.
