Mithravarun sets new discuss mark

Fresh in mind after being selected for the Youth Olympic Games in China, S. Mithravarun of Coimbatore hurled the disc to a new distance of 51.64m for under-18 boys’ discus gold on the penultimate day of the 29th Tamil Nadu inter-district junior athletics championship at the Kongu Engineering College here on Sunday.

The 17-year-old from Mani HSS shattered the existing mark of 49.63 set by N. Sathish of St. Joseph’s Sports Academy in his fourth attempt and further improved upon it to 51.64m in his sixth and final attempt.
