Patrick Makau held off fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai to win the Berlin Marathon on Sunday in a sprint finish.
Makau claimed victory in a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 8 seconds, over two minutes slower than the record of Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie, who ran the race in 2:03.59 hours in 2008.
Mutai came in two seconds behind Makau with Bazu Worku of Ethiopia third.
Around 40,000 runners took part in the 37th Berlin Marathon through the streets of the German capital in rainy conditions.
