Japan's Fujiwara wins Tokyo marathon

Japan's Masakazu Fujiwara pulled away with around two kilometers remaining to win the men's race at a rain-swept Tokyo marathon on Sunday.

Fujiwara clocked two hours, 12 minutes, 19 seconds for the title. Compatriot Arata Fujiwara came home in second place in 2:12:34, just ahead of Atsushi Sato, who clocked 2:12:35 in the race which serves as a qualifier for Japanese runners for a place at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in November.

Russia's Alevtina Biktimirova won the women's race in 2:34:39, followed by Robe Guta of Ethiopia in 2:36:29 and Nuta Olaru of Romania in 2:35:43.
