Ram Singh Yadav finished 78th among 85 finishers in the men’s marathon in the Olympics on Sunday with a time of 2: 30.6 seconds.
It was the 31-year-old Indian’s worst career timing.
He had qualified for the Olympics with a time of 2:16:59 in the Standard Chartered Mumbai marathon in January this year. Yadav has nine other marks below 2:23 in his career.
Doubts were expressed about his fitness before he was cleared by the federation after a fitness trial.

Competing Marathon, completing it under 2:30Hrs itself is the achievement.
Searched the Hindu print edition for a write up on marathon, an
important atheletic event. No write up about the surprise winner and
the other medalists, just this skewed piece about Indian finishing 78th.
Bad Coverage for such an important event.
