A decision as to the sporting future of South African middle distance runner Caster Semenya will be made by the end of next month, International Athletics Federation (IAAF) president Lamine Diack confirmed on Friday.
“It won’t take longer than until the end of June,” said Diack in Doha where the Diamond League athletics meeting takes place later Friday.
Semenya has been unable to race since winning the women’s 800-metre world title in Berlin last August amid gender test revelations.
The 19-year-old has been undergoing hormone-based treatment for what is widely thought now to be an inter-sex condition and could return to competition at some point this year.
Diack, who has been IAAF president since 1999, also revealed that he intends running for another term as president of track and field’s world governing body in 2011.
