Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda gave India its first medal at the Paralympic Games after bagging silver in the men’s high jump F42 event in London.
The 24-year-old from Karnataka, who has an impairment in his left leg, sailed over a height of 1.74m using scissors technique in the final of the event to finish second in the presence of an 80,000 capacity crowd.
Iliesa Delana of Fiji won the gold, while Lukasz Mamczarz of Poland settled for bronze.
Although Delana finished on the same height of 1.74m as Girisha and Mamczarz but won gold on the basis of taking less jumps.

I look at this picture and it makes me stand up against all odds. Go champ, you have much more to achieve.
Congrats Girisha!!!!
am so proud of you... Good Luck for all your future events!!!
great effort.... shine doesn't ask reciever.... it shine on its own...
you have made us proud . you are an inspiration for all the disabled people and have made the normal people raise their eyebrows.
This should have meen the front page news,to lift spirits of all sportspersons and superbly-abled persons.THE HINDU missed an opportunity to showcase the achievements of them.
Congrats Girisha....You made us proud.I am very sad and upset that english media not reported on 3rd itself..They have time to report on sunny leone and sania mirza incidents..so sad...i hope girisha will get more awards and he has shown that in life what matters is determination...
We salute you boss. God bless and keep up the good work. Great feat. Please give him the same treatment what you gave to the regular olympians. Government please take note AND Appreciate THE GREAT FEAT ACHIEVED.
Proud of you. Indeed! disability is in thoughts only.
This should have been headline news two days ago. Shame on the print and
electronic media for not highlighting this achievement . It went all out
at winning a bronze at the olympics by able bodied men and women and has
not bothered to highlight the paralymics and this achievement by an
Indian high jumper. Neither the governments at the centre nor at the
state have announced any awards for this young lad. Shame on all of us
.Achivement by this young lad is bigger than Bindra willing the gold.
Keep it up!
We will continue to win, we are no longer in the world's population in India is less chance for us .......I'm a one disable swimmer(both legs affected) From Kanyakumari TamilNadu
congrats.....Girish
This is not a sideline news! this should be headline. He is the only one to win a medal and I am sure a historic one as well. This story should spring life onto to so many other disabled and give them strength (b.t.w not patronising disabled here).
Wow he is the inspiration for all PD people.
This medal will encourage others also to participate in such a huge
level games.
Well done mate...you made our country proud.
