Bangalore to host Asian GP

The Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) will host the Asian Grand Prix for the second time in Bangalore and the newly laid synthetic surface at the Sree Kanteerava stadium awaits the cream of athletes.

While the Indian Grand Prix will be held on June 4, the Asian GP is scheduled on June 5 with China, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Hong Kong, Jordan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Thailand and Vietnam expected to send their athletes who will be vying for the $110,000 prize money.

Incidentally, Bangalore will be hosting the second of three scheduled GP with the first one at Pune on June 1 and the final one at Chennai on June 9.

The points accumulated in the three events will help the athletes qualify for the Asian All Stars Meet to be held in New Delhi on July 29 and 30.

The Indian GP will be held for the first time with 12 events (seven for men and five for women) scheduled for June 4.

Addressing the press, Dr. G. Parmeshwara, MLA and President of the Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) promised “turning all stones to make the event a great success.”
