Four meet records took a tumble on the opening day of the Sri Krishna Institutions 84th Tamil Nadu State senior athletics championship for men and women at the Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

Southern Railway's recent recruit L. Surya sparkled quite early in the day with a record breaking effort in the women's 10,000m.

She stopped the clock at 36:22.3s for a new record. She was quite convinced as she had bettered her own record of 38:34.0s set in Chennai in 2009.
