13:55: In the next court, Sania and Vardhan too are up 4-3, against Chinese Taipei's Chan and Yang in their mixed doubles finals. The Indians are serving.

13:51: great rally, the Indians crowding the net, great volley from Singh, 30-30. Good serve from Li, great interception from Gong 40-30.

13:50: The Chinese serving now - Good return from Devvarman, 0-15. But he misses the next shot. 15-15. Long return from Devvarman, 30-15.

13:47: Engrossing encounter. China were up 3-2 in this first set. But the Indians have managed to level the set now.

13:43: Singh's return wide, 15-0, Somdev's return long, 30-0. Singh hits it to the net, 40-0.

13:40: Singh's serve, 40-0. Long return, 40-15. Singh hits it to the net, 40-30. Break point for Gong and Li, brilliant return straight down the line from Li, they take the game from 0-40.

13:38: Singh to serve now - Ace, great serve. Singh impressive in that rally, retrieved a tough volley, returned it quickly, Gong fumbles.

13:36: Li serves, saves one break point, but returns the next shot long. India 2-1.

13:35: Great shot from Sanam Singh, a return just inside baseline. 30-15. And Gong's return goes long. Break point.

13:30: And again, they lure the Indians to the baseline, then smash close to the net. Error from Somdev, that's a perfect start for the Chinese.

13:23: Chan and Chuang neat their countrywomen for the women's doubles tennis Gold.

13:20: Preeti looking for an opening, not finding it. Preeti loses balance, lands hard on her knee. She's twisted it, it's going to be a walkover. Preeti's the third Indian woman athlete who's had to exit because of an injury.

13:18: India's Preeti Beniwal fighting Thailand's Thongjan Thassamalee. Thailand's up 3 points after the first two rounds. This is the women's 60kg quarterfinal.

13:15: Meanwhile, Indians fare well in squash - Saurav Ghosal, Siddharth Suchde and Harinder Sandhu beat their Japanese opponents 3-0 in in the Pool B contest

13:12: Indian men get the archery bronze, finish 222 to Taipei's 216. As in Doha, so in Guangzhou.

13:09: Pressure, Banerjee starts with an 8, Singh with a bulls-eye 10, Jayant with a 9, salvages Banerjee's 8. Taipei lose their chance, with a 7, which means there's a gap of 21 points, impossible with two shots to go.

13:05: Banerjee shoots first - a steady 9, Mangal SIngh scores a 10, Jayant, an 8. Taipei start with a 9 too, follow it up with another, finish with an 8. India has a one-point lead.

13:05: Twist in the archery contest - both teams even after the third end. 166-166.the final end now.

13:03: In the archery bronze battle, India are up 113 to Taipei's 108 after the second End.

13:00: Some drama at the cycling road race event - Hong Kong's Wong Kam Po has been declared winner, not because he finished first. South Korea's Park Sung Baek, who had maintained a clear lead through most of the match, swerved in front of po near the finish line. He was pushed to 19th place for this infringement.

Park was initially placed first in a photo finish over Wong, both in a time of 4 hours, 14 minutes, 54 seconds.

But Park appeared to swing wide to his left in the final stages of the 9—lap, 180—kilometer race, and Wong signaled with his hand in the air immediately and again as he crossed the finish line to claim interference.

12:56: Meanwhile, China's Shi Ting Mao and Wang Han took the first diving Gold in the 3m synchronised springboard event

12:40: End 4 - Banerjee consistent, gets a 9, Singh a 9 as well, but only just. Jayant gets a 9 as well. Koreans start with an 8, follow it up with a 10, though. And end with a 9. gap remains - 193-188

12:27: India starts with a 10, 8 from Mangal Singh, Jayant with another 8, scores even at 26.

12:26: Koreans, who qualified higher, start with 26 points. The first two scored 9 each, the third shooter a little off mark

12:24: And here come the Indians and South Koreans for the men's archery semifinals

12:21:Rinku mehlu asks after the tennis doubles finals. The women are still battling it out, Chan and Chuang took the first set, but both teams even at 3-3 in the second. The men's final, with Devvarman and Sanam Singh will begin shortly.

12:20: Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei have won the second game in the women's volleyball match

12:17: Hong Kong's Jaqueline with her gelding - the horse has great posture. The gelding hits a bar, 4 penalties. And another 4. Not a bad round

12:15: Qatar's Ali with Santos, his horse, no penalties so far. Some hesitation near the water hurdle, but clears it without trouble. Brilliant, no penalties.

11:51:Jagadish Bikurkar's thoughts on tennis in India - I think Tennis is as Lucrative (if not more) as cricket in terms of name, fame and monetary benefits. The gaming authorities should hold more domestic tournaments to get more people into this sport. There are a few Indian who are doing good but I feel it is not enough.

11:41: Impressive fight, considering Kom won her medals in a lesser weight category

11:39: The referee cautions Meng against clinching Kom. Kom sent to readjust her head-gear. Match paused.

11:38: Round 2 - Neat right hook, point no.4 for Kom. And another left jab from the southpaw pugilist. 5-0. And another punch, 6-0.

11:37: There are four 2-minute rounds in women's boxing, unlike the three three-minute rounds in the men's version.

11:34: round 1 - five time world champion Kom invites Meng to attack, drops her shell guard. It pays off, a left jab for a quick first point. And a strong right, point 2.

11:31: A small clarification for the athletics enthusiasts. The women's high jump this morning was part of a heptathlon.

11:24:Sriraghavan clarifies that the high-jump technique I mentioned in the update is 'Fosbury Flop', and not 'Flosbery Flop'. Raghavan's right. He goes on to tell us that this replaced an earlier technique called 'Straddle'.

11:00: The women's doubles tennis semifina is under way, it's an all-Taipei event. Chang and Hsieh are leading the first set 2-0

10:59:Yash wants to know about Indian women's chances in high jump. The two Indians Pramila Ganapathy and Singharoy Susmita couldn't clear the bar beyond 1.65, Yash, so they finished in 4th place and 6th place respectively.

10:56: Watch out for India in Kayaking - India competing in the doubles and fours in the Kayaking event.

10:53: And Ekimbaev manages to flip Anil Kumar. He's through to the quarterfinals.

10:51: Ekimbaev manages to hold on during the first round, wins it. Anil unable to put Ekimbaev down despite a couple of close shaves.

10:48: India's Anil Kumar now takes on Kyrgizstan's Ekimbaev. This too seems to be going Kyrgizstan's way.

10:39: And Somdev wins! Insipred serve from Somdev, sharp return from Ito, but the Indian rushes forward, places it away from Ito. He's through to the finals.

7:44: South Korea's Lee Eun for her second attempt of 1.63 now - oh, she snags the bar.

7:42: Flosberry flop, the technique's called, and Pramila did just that on her first attempt. Japan's Yuki jumps, makes Pramila's jump look good

7:39: The Indians, who's average is currently 9.2, will play South Korea, who have an average of 9.4.

7:36: India's Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh and Jayanth Talukdar beat Nepal in the quarter-finals and have won a place in the semifinals.

7:31: India in the lead, with 18 arrows fired so far. The last round now.
