Clash of the Titans. Both teams coming through as Group toppers, proving impossible to pick a clear favourite based on current form.

Right, that is it from me. Be sure to join me for the midnight game - Spain v Paraguay. Spain clear favourites, but predictions go haywire as we have seen in this tournament.

Germany are without inspirational captain Michael Ballack and first choice keeper Rene Adler and a couple of other midfielders. This makes the win all the more stunning, a clear warning to the teams in contention.

So Germany are through to the semifinals, and will face the winner of the Spain-Paraguay match. Argentina unable to clear the first majot challenge they have faced in the World Cup, but the German juggernaut rolls on.

Germany showing why the are known all over the world for their efficiency. Argentina may have played the prettier football, but find themselves on the way home after a disastrous result. Every time the Germans had possesion in front of goal, they scored. No fuss, no fancy moves. Argentina, on the other hand, played a beautiful game, but stuttered and stumbled in front of goal.

End of the game. Argentina dumped out of the World Cup by an efficient German team.

89th minute: Klose scores again. 4-0 Germany. All too simple for the Germans. Klose unmarked in front of goal once again. Puts the ball into the net, easy as that.

Argentina still coming up with stylish moves, fancy dribbling and sublime skill. Of what use if they are 3 goals down?

87th minute: Messi desperate to score in this World Cup. Shot from way out is easily kept out.

6 minutes to go.. Don't see Argetina scoring three in 6 minutes...

Germany running down the clock, as they should.

Seems to be the end of the road for Maradona and his team. No naked run for Maradona.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is delirious with joy. Only football can get politicians to publicly jump around with happiness. Her PR group have their hands full, no doubt.

74th minute: Germany slot one more goal. 3-0! Schweinsteiger with a slaloming run down the left, beating all Argentian defenders in sight. Cuts the ball back for Friedrich, simple tap-in and it is game over.

Talk about scoring against the run of play. Argentina seemed to have all the possession and chances, but Germany is the team with a 2-goal lead. A lesson learnt, convert the chances you get.

Germany score!! Klose gives Germany a 2-0 lead. Could be one of the simplest goals Klose has scored in his career. Podolski cuts in deep into the Argentina box, passes the ball across the goal to Klose, who taps the ball into an empty net. 100th match for Klose, has he put this contest beyond doubt now?

65th minute: Di Maria now, with a shot with his left from just outside the box. Confortable save for the keeper. Germany living on the edge here. All out attack from Argentina.

64th minute: Ball falls dangerously for Higuain in front of goal, but Lahm is around to clean up the mess and stop a goal.

62nd minute: Lethal looking Tevez strike stopped by the keeper. Argetina look dangerous now.

61st minute: Schweinsteiger free kick into the wall. Great position for Schweinsteiger to score the second goal.

Messi looks so classy when he gets the ball, but he is unable to finish his move with conviction. End product, be it the shot on goal or an effective assist is absent.

Argentina moving with real purpose now. We have an excellent match on our hands.

53rd minute: Tevez recieves a high ball in front of goal. Lets fly with his left but it slams into Mertesacker's face. Some serious pain, or is it? Mertesacker shakes it off and moves on like nothing happened. This is Sparta!!!!

In all the madness, I have forgotten to give you some important news from the first half. Mueller was booked for a rash challenge and will miss the semifinals should Germany make it. Huge blow for Germany.

Argentina look a different team in the second half so far. I would kill to be a fly on the wall when Maradona gives a rousing half time speech to his players in the dressing room.

49th minute: Angel Di Maria with a left footed strike. Just wide of the far post. That one had some serious venom on it.

Return to action...

Right, join us shortly for second half action..

Germany clearly the better team in the first. Mueller and Klose had chances to increase the lead, especially Klose, who missed a sitter. Argentina's Messi hasn't done anything of note in this match, or even this tournament. Surely this is the match where he shows the world what he is capable of? Will the real Lionel Messi please stand up?

Half time done. Germany keep their early 1-0 lead.

44th minute: Lahm wrecking havoc from the right. Passes to Mueller, takes a poke at goal but is blocked. Corner.

42nd minute: Ozil fancies a shot with his left. Too far out, too high, too ambitious. Next, please...

38th minute: Podolski doing what he does best, use his left foot. Strikes one from outside the box, keeper dives but the ball just misses the far post.

37th minute: Higuain taps the ball into the net and begins to celebrate. Nothing doing, fffside! There were actually four Argentian players offside on that one. Four offside, are you kidding me?

35th minute: Higuain on the attack. Takes the ball with his right, shifts it to his left to get some space and take a quick show ta goal. Easily saved. Good looking move, but the finish was weak.

Leonardo Di Caprio in the stadium. Welcome back to your Blood Diamond roots Leo!

31st minute: Tevez brought down by Podolski just outisde the box rather violently. Messi takes the free kick but the shot is terribly wide.

26th minute: Klose misses a simple chance! Pass from Mueller finds Klose completely unmarked in front of goal with only the keeper to beat. But the striker is unable to control his shot and sends the ball sailing into the crowd. "Why didn't I just chip the ball so Klose could use his head instead of his foot?", mutters Mueller in his head.

23rd minute: Tevez is slipped a through ball but keeper Manuel Neuer gets to the ball quickly

Argentina look more settled now, stringing some moves together.

16th minute: Lahm with an inviting cross, but headed away by Burdisso. Ball was meant for Klose, who looks disappointed.

15th minute: Argentina on the attack. Cleared out with ease though.

13th minute: Chaos around the Agrentina box as a disorganised Argentina defence tries a clear the ball with Germans breathing down their neck. Final shot from Podolski goes out for a corner.

Messi at it again, with an exciting run which gets the crowd on its feet. Nothing comes of it though, but whenever Messi gets the ball, you feel the magic.

Argentina defence looks a bit rattled after the early goal.

3rd minute: Germany score!!! Thomas Mueller with a header. What a start to the game! Free kick from Bastian Schweinsteiger, poor defending from Argentina as Mueller gets minimal contact on the ball with his head, but it is enough to beat the 'keeper.

2nd minute: Klose runs into his opponent from behind, bringing him down.

And we're off.. Action time..

The Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel is in the crowd.

National anthems. Argentina first. Coach Maradona says 'Cmon!' to his team after the anthem ends. Germany, as serious as ever.

So tonight, there should be a high voltage clash between the winners from '86 (Argentina) and the winners from '90 (West Germany)

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Argentina v Germany game. All you punters out there, I suggest you take it easy tonight. The game is too close to call, and Brazil's exit on Friday proves that things can go radically wrong for a team in a very short period of time.
