Nandini Parmar of Madhya Pradesh became the first Indian to win a medal in the Asian karate championships.

Nandini won a bronze in the junior category in the Asian senior, junior and cadet championship, which concludes at Tashkent on Tuesday.

Nandini defeated a player from Hong Kong to win the medal, according to a press release from the All India Karate-Do Federation.

The president of the AIKDF, R. Thiagarajan, announced a cash award of Rs. one lakh for Nandini.

Over 30 countries are taking part in the championship.
