A battling unbeaten 140 (349b, 17x4) by Ra. Aravind was the principal factor in TI Cycles denying holder Vijay CC first innings lead at the Murugappa ground on the third day of the second round in the TNCA first division league here on Friday.
TI Cycles finished at 368 for eight in its first innings which meant both sides took three points each from the match. Vijay had declared its first innings at 504 for four.
Aravind and R. Kavin (45) put on 100 runs for the fourth wicket in 35.4 overs. Earlier, Athi Raj Shandilya made (80, 217b, 7x4, 3x6). For Vijay, left-arm spinner Kiran Prasath claimed three wickets.
Off-spinner Prashant Chandran took five for 39 as Alwarpet collapsed from overnight 132 for three to 179 all out at the MRF-Pachaiyappas ground. Globe Trotters duly reached the target of 56 to win the contest by eight wickets.
Young Stars forced a draw against Jolly Rovers at SRMC. For Rovers, off-spinner M. Prabhu picked up four wickets.
Defiant knocks from K. Bharath Shankar (41), B. Indrajith (59, 163b, 7x4) and M. Kamalesh (46) took UFCC (T.Nagar) to 214 for eight against Aruna CC at the RKM-Vivekananda ground; both sides secured three points each. Indrajith and Kamalesh gathered 102 for the sixth wicket in 32.1 overs.
Despite Dinesh Karthik’s fighting 88 (153b, 11x4, 1x6), Grand Slam, dismissed for 228, conceded the lead to India Pistons at CPT-IP. Leg-spinner M. Ashwin scalped four.
Seventeen-year-old Shahrukh Khan (91, 153b, 10x4, 1x6) and P. Satish (69, 115b, 7x4, 1x6) raised 126 for the sixth wicket in 34.3 to enable Indian Bank, reeling at overnight 45 for four in its second innings, reach 255 for seven and deny IOB an outright win at MAC.
