Aparajith slams 184; Santosh hits ton

B. Aparajith (184, 164b, 32x4) celebrated his selection to the India under-19 World Cup squad with an attacking century to propel Grand Slam to 412 for four, after it opted to bat against Jolly Rovers on the first day of the TNCA first division league on Thursday.

Along with fellow century-maker V. Maaruthi Raghav (127 batting, 19x4, 1x6), Aparajith amassed 180 runs for the third wicket in 32.4 overs.

Put in to bat by defending champion Vijay CC, Aruna recovered well to reach 211 for nine after tottering at 88 for seven.

R. Rohit (50, 6x4, 1x6) and captain V.R.S. Guru Kedarnath 41 (4x4) added 73 runs for the eighth wicket after pacer P. Amarnath (three for 46) had rattled the top order.

Inserted by Globe Trotters, Skipper R. Srinivasan (107, 12x4) and opener Prasanth Ramkumar (71, 7x4) helped India Pistons end the day on 298 for four.

Electing to bat, UFCC (T. Nagar) finished with 223 for eight against Alwarpet at stumps, thanks to an unbeaten ninth-wicket partnership of 66 runs between M.K. Shivakumar (50 batting, 10x4) and V. Arun Kumar.

Seamer Gary Antony Dumenil scalped three wickets.

M. Santhosh Gopi’s (109, 150b, 17x4, 1x6) ton powered TI Cycles to 300 for six after it chose to bat against IOB.

Batting first, Indian Bank folded for 123 against Young Stars. Left-arm spinner M. Suresh Babu (five for 23) and captain Malolan Rangarajan (four for 29) were the wreckers-in-chief.

In reply, Young Stars went to stumps at 93 for three.

At Murugappa: TI Cycles 300 for six in 90 overs (M. Santhosh Gopi 109, S. Dinesh Kumar 49 batting) vs. IOB.
