Diwali is here and so are crackers! The Green Run, a non-competitive group run organised by non-governmental organisation 360 Degree in association with Indian Medical Association(IMA), will be held in the city on October 15, to create awareness on rising noise levels and air pollution during the festive occasion.
Speaking over phone, Gautham Raveendran, founder and president of 360 Degree, says,“We have been conducting charitable and environmental awareness activities for some time now. This is the first time we are organising something like this and since it’s Diwali we decided to concentrate on ill-effects of crackers.” He reassures that the campaign is to reduce the use of crackers and not against banning it altogether.
The proceeds from the run, Gautham says, will be utilised for three different socially relevant initiatives. Green Community Initiative aims at collaborating with educational institutions across the city to build vertical gardens in their compounds. “We will also be launching a travelling library and some money would go into our Gift A Smile initiative, an individual-volunteer based programme that aims at celebrating birthdays of children residing in orphanages in the city,”adds Gautham.
On Sunday, the run will start at 7 am from Kowdiar junction and end at Museum. The registration is through https://www.360degreengo.com/the-green-run-2017 and the fee is Rs. 100 for students and Rs. 200 for others. For more information contact 7736368159.
