Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam talks of Lord Siva’s kindness towards pigs that had been orphaned and sparrows tormented by big birds. The Lord’s kindness towards the weak is legendary. Sage Paranjothi, author of Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam , marvels at this quality of the Lord, said T.Rajarathinam, in a discourse.
The sparrows that he writes about in Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam say that Lord Siva goes in search of the weak and infirm, so that He can help them. Will a God who heeds the cries of the common sparrow not heed the cries of His devotees? A God who roots for the humble, is naturally pleased with simple worship, and does not ask for elaborate rituals or grand worship. Saint Thirumoolar says we can do very simple things to earn His mercy and goodwill. Thirumoolar says that we should offer some grass to a cow. When we eat, we must share our food with others. We must speak to others with graciousness.
Pamban Swami says there are easy paths to moksha. One can recite a few verses of Thevaram. Or one can serve the devotees of Lord Siva. Or one can listen to religious discourses about Lord Siva. One can observe religious occasions related to Lord Siva and Lord Shanmukha. One can sing verses that praise the Lord. Or one can recite mantras that invoke Lord Siva or Lord Shanmukha. One should sport sacred ash on one’s forehead.
Pamban Swami further says one can be respectful towards one’s spiritual guru and attain moksha thereby. Many people have attained moksha this way, according to Pamban Swami. Thus saints have pointed to us that the way to moksha is not difficult, and that once we do the right things, which are all very easy to follow, then we are assured of moksha.
